February 1st Birthday

Today is my mother’s birthday. She was born on February 1, 1911. Her time on earth was 72 years and 10 days.

My mother taught me to knit. My first knitted project was very difficult, but I learned a lot of knitting skills. Over time knitting has become my passion. Knitting has been part of my life since I was a teenager.

First Knitting Project

The first 20 years of my life was lived in St. Louis, Missouri (That is why I am a St. Louis Cardinal Fan!!). After Bill and I were married, our first home was serving with a rural church.

My knitting went with me in the rural church, and I taught teenage girls how to knit. Many girls caught the knitting passion and I’m certain they are still knitting today. Each place we lived I have taught others how to knit.

With each new baby in our home I would knit hats, blankets and sweaters. Also, I always had a shower gift ready for family and friends as a result of my knitting. My knitting needles were always busy!!

Now you ask: “Why did I name my blog and my ETSY website, Nellie’s Knit Shoppe?” My mother’s name was Nellie Lee and she taught me so much about knitting and life. Knitting is a lot like life. There are many do-overs, times to rip, start again, and finally to experience the finished project. February 1st would have been my mother’s birthday. And she would have been 100 years old.
